The Jazz thing magazine describes him as "one of the greatest German talents on the tenor saxophone" (9/13).
For his "Natural Perception" tour at the end of 2015, Tobias Meinhart, who has been living in New York since 2010, spontaneously decided on a studio concert and live recording in the best studio atmosphere. The theme refers to the spiritual power of music that arises when all musicians play without mental obstacles. The working band around Tobias Meinhart has set itself the goal of achieving this 'flow' as often as possible. Phil Donkin, a sought-after sideman, known for his work with Kurt Rosenwinkel or Dhaffer Youssef, plays bass. The young Jesse Simpson from San Francisco drives the band on drums, and the Spaniard Yago Vazquez is on piano and Fender Rhodes. For this project, Tobias' longtime mentor Ingrid Jensen joins the band on trumpet. Best known for her work with the Maria Schneider Orchestra, she is often seen in the top 5 of the annual Downbeat Critics Polls.
The music of the quintet is cool, relaxed, and convincing. On this album, you hear a band that has played a lot and therefore has no qualms about taking risks. Inspired by the open-minded audience and the unique studio atmosphere on this evening, sound engineer Johannes Wohlleben once again ensured excellent analog sound.
