Our 47th STUDIO CONCERT on Vinyl: CHOLET, MICHEL, ITHURSARRY

Jean-Christophe Cholet – piano
Matthieu Michel – flugelhorn
Didier Irthusarry – accordion

Jean-Christophe Cholet is one of the most unique French pianists in jazz and improvised music. His classical training does not hinder him from having a rich and diverse compositional style. Artistic and cultural diversity always take center stage in his work. He leads numerous projects in various formations, with his discography boasting more than 20 albums.

Matthieu Michel (trumpet, flugelhorn) is also an exceptional artist. With his distinctive playing style and a special feel for melodies, he has the ability to immerse the listener in an extraordinary and enchanting musical universe. As a long-time member of the Vienna Art Orchestra, he has traveled to approximately 40 countries and played on more than 300 albums.

Cholet and Michel met more than 20 years ago through the Vienna Art Orchestra and have been regularly meeting, whether privately or on stage, since then. Their first joint album, "Benji," was released in 1998.

For the studio concert, they are joined by accordionist Didier Ithursarry, who received classical training at the Conservatoire of Orsay but blends his music with other art forms such as theater, dance, jazz, improvised music, and world music.

A common thread running through the program is the traditional music of the Atlantic region, from Brittany to the Basque Country, where Didier Ithursarry hails from. This includes various dances and folk tunes, such as "Banako," "Zortziko," "Fandango," or "Mutxiko." This connection gives the project its name, "Atlantic Whispers," alluding to the subtle power inherent in both the ocean and the duo's compositions.
