product description

Réka – vocals; Max Zentawer – guitar

Longing. Who doesn't know it? This consuming, devouring desire for something, for someone. Réka dedicates herself to this strong feeling on LONGING, her debut album in duo with guitarist Max Zentawer.

With her song selection and her wonderfully versatile voice, the Berlin-based singer effortlessly removes any kitsch factor from longing. Réka's voice, Réka's mood is genuine. From contemplative-melancholic to searching-optimistic, she explores the facets of longing. Sometimes warm and dark like a fragrance-filled summer night, sometimes bright and clear like the snow air of a New Year's morning.

Singer-songwriter meets jazz meets folk meets soul: Réka takes her listeners on an inspiring journey. The lyrics of the songs are particularly important to the singer, all of which share an aspect of longing.

For example, Fire and Rain by James Taylor describes the desire to see someone again with whom a meeting is no longer possible. In Bridges by Milton Nascimento, Réka sings about the search for the bridge that connects one with others and finally allows belonging. With Crystal Silence by Chick Corea, Réka creates a lonely space after being left behind. And sometimes it's simply the longing for love that brooks no delay – Love, come quick!!, – when Réka interprets Thieves in the Temple by Prince in her own way.

In guitarist Max Zentawer, Réka has found a congenial and sensitive accompanist. His imaginative guitar arrangements, played on the acoustic concert guitar, create the necessary sonic space for Réka's refreshing reinterpretations of some well-known songs and standards. The guitarist and composer, based in Freiburg, co-produced the album and contributes, along with a series of lyrical solo moments, his own composition, Lac blanc, which seamlessly fits into the theme of LONGING.

Longing. Perhaps what we long for never comes. Or maybe in a different form. In the form of a CD called LONGING. And in its enchantingly delicate words and sounds, it captures the longing.
