"After their debut album FORWARD, Torque Trio captivates audiences with their new release, OSMOSIS. Their synergy is even tighter, their friendship even deeper. The exploration of the optimal balance between openness, flexibility, and stability is evident, expressing the individual development of each musician through spontaneous moments of tension. Torque Trio is not just a project; it's an independent, original band.
The songs reflect the experiences and developments of recent years. For example, "Presikhaaf" reflects Schalkwijk's time in the neighborhood of the same name in Arnhem, while "A New Day" represents a somewhat challenging phase where each day offers the opportunity for a fresh start, a new beginning. Nearly all the titles are penned by Koen Schalkwijk.
Torque Trio has introduced interesting musical aspects with the glass harp and the singing bowl.

Press:
"The piano passages are never simply banal and meandering, and the catchy bass plucking caresses the listener's ear. In the duet of piano and bass, one occasionally discovers 'scenically set music'. In other words: thesis and antithesis, dialogue, confrontation, harmony, and euphony are discernible."
jazz'halo 11/14 (Ferdinand Dupuis-Panther)
"Innovative and technically perfect, the guys play themselves to the top (...). The high-res version sounds much more detailed, spatially three-dimensional, and dynamic on the right equipment."
hifitest.de 05/14 (Christian Rechenbach)
"The compositions impress with their sparing simplicity, and the clear, mostly short, lucid melodies are coherent and unaffected."
Jazz'n'More 05/14 (Christof Thurnherr)
"A real likable recording. One of those modern piano trio albums that clicks right into place."
birdistheworm.com 02/14
"Lively jazz of modern make, cleanly laid out and cheerfully pulsating."
highresmac.de 02/14 (Tom Semmler)
"(...) so much catchy balance that listening to this CD can become a beloved habit. Cleanly styled interaction here does not mean banally smoothed over."
PianoNews 01/14 (Tom Fuchs)
"The German-Dutch Torque Trio pairs power and elegance on their second album. (...) The sound architecture by Ludwigshafen's sound engineer Philipp Heck allows the listener to peek into the smallest corners."
AUDIO 12/13 (Matthias Inhoffen) - SOUND TIP
"'Osmosis' contains music that is both intelligent and sensitive, but also optimistic and melancholic."
Trouw 12/13 (Mischa Andriessen)
"(...) on 'Osmosis,' compositions are placed in discourse, which in their architecture and emotionality are even finer, more balanced, and more convincing than on the already praised predecessor."
Jazz Podium 11/13 (Thorsten Hingst)
"This is perhaps one of the most exciting and inventive trios to come around in some time, deceptively subtle in presentation while evocative in an ambient presentation few trios could master. This is an incredibly independent yet wildly original new band destined for great things."
Criticaljazz.com 10/13 (Brent Black)
"(...) shape their lively ballads as dense networks. Ideas and inspirations become interplay."
kulturtipp 10/13 (Frank von Niederhäusern)
"(…) it’s a highly assured accessible album full of pretty melodies framed by a very European jazz sensibility (…)."
