Taishiang Lee: Heroic Song - World Premiere Recording!
Faithful interpretations and technical perfection
Following their first CD, together with the Spanish Cuarteto Leonor, the German-Asian Jade Quartet now presents its first album as a string quartet. The program, like the ensemble's composition, is a fusion of Asian and European culture.
The Jade Quartet sees itself as a mediator between worlds, aiming to introduce Asian composers and their music to Europe, as well as promoting European string quartet literature in Asia (especially in Taiwan and Korea). The work of Taishiang Lee from Taiwan is featured here in its world premiere recording!
For the quartet, alongside technical perfection, a faithful interpretation is of utmost importance. An intensive engagement with each composer and their time, combined with sensitivity and technically flawless interpretation, gives the works a wonderful original presence.
The JADE QUARTET
JADE not only denotes the culturally significant stone in China. JA represents Asia, the homeland of the four young musicians who met in Germany - DE- to make music together (Han-Lin Liang - violin, Hyun-Ji You - violin, Daniel Rehfeldt - viola, Shih-Yu Yu - cello).
Formed in 2002, the quartet was invited to the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition later that year, where it participated with great success. An intensive concert career followed: With over 40 concerts per year, the Jade Quartet is among the most promising young string quartets. The ensemble is regularly invited to prominent festivals such as the Oberstdorf Music Summer or the Musical Summer in East Frisia, and performs in various countries in Europe, Taiwan, and Japan.
Their recent accolades include the 1st prize at the nationwide university competition in 2004 and the Iris Marquart Prize. The Jade Quartet is also a recipient of scholarships from the Villa Musica Foundation and the Karl Klingler Foundation. A highlight of their career was winning the 3rd prize at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in 2005. In February 2006, the four musicians graduated with distinction from the Chamber Music with String Quartet program.
