product description
On PERMANENT TRANSIENCE, bass trombonist Justin Clark showcases the vast range of tonal colors and sounds of his often misunderstood and overlooked instrument. To unleash its capabilities, he founded the Tranzɪənt Ensemble: Two percussionists perform on a variety of instruments, mixed with floating violin melodies, a massive double bass sound, rapid piano runs, and a prominent bass trombone. It's definitely not a typical blend by classical standards – but that's exactly the point: This is not a typical ensemble, and it doesn't play standard repertoire.
The truly modern musician can adeptly capture the interesting fragments of the continuously surrounding music and sounds while filtering out the rest. Indeed, we have grown up with hundreds of different musical styles. Thus, it's highly unlikely to find a classically trained musician who hasn't been influenced by more or less prominent artists from pop, rock, rap, or one of the other genres, collectively referred to as world music.
Many of the works on Permanent Transience are a result of this modern cacophony. Several pieces were created by Justin Clark specifically for this ensemble or modified to fit into the existing repertoire. The transient nature of this album and ensemble is evident in the changing forms and genres of its repertoire.
