Magnus Mehl studied jazz saxophone in Amsterdam, Cologne, Nuremberg, and Stuttgart, as well as in New York City as a scholarship recipient of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). He completed the master's program in jazz saxophone with the highest grade. He has performed in the State Jazz Orchestras of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, and North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as in the Federal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer. With various ensembles, he has won 1st prizes at prestigious international jazz competitions in Spain and Italy (Getxo Jazz Contest, International Jimmy Woode Award), as well as a 2nd prize at the International Hoilaart Jazz Contest in Belgium. Magnus Mehl was a finalist in the International Yamaha Saxophone Competition and was awarded the best saxophonist of the competition at the Jimmy Woode Award. In 2015, he received the Jazz Prize of the State of Baden-Württemberg.
