product description
The young twins Max and Gabriel climb a mountain to reach the glacier. Although they look very similar, they differ fundamentally in their nature and actions. For Gabriel, this is his first hike, and he is deeply impressed by nature. The size and beauty of the mountains touch his soul. His brother Max, on the other hand, views the landscape through the eyes of a scientist. When they reach the glacier, a terrible accident occurs...
The Glacier - A polymicrotonal opera
Some of the musicians play specially constructed microtonal instruments such as the Bohlen-Pierce clarinet, the 19-tone trumpet, or the 41-tone guitar. Others specialize in eliciting up to 128 tones per octave from traditional instruments such as the bassoon or saxophone. Composer Christian Klinkenberg pondered how all these different microtonal systems could be brought together in one composition. Where are the similarities, intersections, and additions? One musical answer is provided by the opera "The Glacier".
In addition to the version of the opera presented here in German, it was also performed in English in Brussels and New York.
