product description
In May 2017, the professional symphonic wind orchestra of the Bavarian Police, Polizeiorchester Bayern, released a special album titled BLUE to commemorate the change in the Bavarian Police's uniform color from green to blue. The CD showcases selected works ranging from concert band music to high-quality entertainment music featuring special soloists.
With the new CD BLUE, the Polizeiorchester Bayern once again takes listeners on a journey through diverse sonic landscapes. "The change in color to the new blue concert attire is also special for us. That's why you'll find some 'blue' titles on our current CD," describes Chief Conductor Prof. Johann Mösenbichler regarding the naming of the new work. The extensive repertoire is reflected in diverse pieces such as the festive concert march "Burst of Blue" by Robert Thurston and the slow, powerful composition "Hymn To A Blue Hour" by John Mackey. A highlight is George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" featuring the esteemed pianist Giorgio Hillebrand. Internal soloists of the Polizeiorchester Bayern also enrich the new CD. The young hornist Svenja Hartwig performs "Share My Yoke" by Joy Webb as a moving arrangement for tenor horn. Additionally, the jazzier side of the Polizeiorchester Bayern is showcased with the Evergreen "Blue Moon" by Richard Rodgers featuring soloist Peter Seufert on tenor saxophone.
Based in the Bavarian capital of Munich, the Polizeiorchester Bayern is the professional symphonic wind orchestra of the Bavarian Police. Established in 1951, it boasts over 65 years of history and has evolved from an initial group of 30 police officers into a concert band with 45 professionally trained musicians. The Polizeiorchester Bayern sees itself as a link between the police and the public. It serves the greater good by performing up to 60 benefit concerts annually in cooperation with organizers from all over Bavaria and beyond, supporting social, charitable, and cultural causes. As part of these charitable events, the orchestra collaborates with associations, foundations, as well as cultural and tourism offices. The ensemble's notable engagements include appearances at the World Saxophone Congress in Strasbourg, the aDevantgarde Festival for contemporary music in Munich, and the Munich Opera Festival.
