product description
**Vive la Banda Française**
Following the success of the two previous Animato productions, "Verdi and the Banda" (ACD6013) and "Banda 2" (ACD6028), "Banda Française," the third CD in this series, exclusively features arrangements for wind orchestra by French composers. This thematic focus is complemented by the direction of the Stuttgart State Orchestra under the baton of the French conductor Marc Soustrot. Works by Hector Berlioz, Giacomo Meyerbeer, François-Adrien Boieldieu, Adolphe Charles Adam, Jacques Fromental Halévy, and Georges Bizet are interpreted on this album.
Marc Soustrot studied conducting, piano, and trombone at the Paris Conservatory and has received numerous awards. He won first prizes at conducting competitions in London and Besançon. He served as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Orchestre Philharmonique des Pays de la Loire from 1976 to 1994, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn from 1995 to 2003, and the Brabants Orkest Eindhoven from 1996 to 2006. As an opera conductor, he has worked at opera houses in Seville, Madrid, Geneva, Brussels, Copenhagen, Oslo, and Stuttgart, where he conducted the new production of Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin" in the 2008/09 season. In the 2010/11 season, he will conduct concert performances of Donizetti's "Maria Stuarda" here. His repertoire ranges from classical to contemporary music, both in opera and in the concert hall.
The Stuttgart State Orchestra, with its over 400-year history, is one of the oldest and most prestigious ensembles in Germany. Under Peter von Lindpaintner, it was considered one of the best orchestras in Europe in the 19th century. In 2002, the Stuttgart State Orchestra was awarded the coveted title of "Orchestra of the Year" for the first time in the survey conducted by the magazine Opernwelt. Works by Bruckner, Mahler, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky, as well as compositions from the 20th century, form focal points of its repertoire.

**Press:**
"(...) the orchestra has enlisted the French conductor Marc Soustrot, who brilliantly leads a series of transcriptions of classic French works from the 19th century, some of which are being recorded for the first time."
Journal de la CMF 10/11 (Francis Pieters)
"The skillful arrangements are performed with captivating joy by the Symphonic Wind Orchestra, providing a delightful auditory treat. Particularly delicious are the articulatory spice and the fiery-agogic aroma in the excerpts from Georges Bizet's Carmen."
Rohrblatt 03/11
"Grand in sound - melomaniacal wind delights, so to speak, played powerfully by the State Orchestra."
