Kees Schafrat, also known as Zootcase, a charismatic man from the Netherlands who is at home in the metropolises of the world, is now stepping onto the international music stage. With his unmistakable voice, emotional depth, and a large dose of musical finesse, he gathers his excellent European musicians to give the world a gift.
With "THE ONLY ONE," eleven wonderful songs composed by Schafrat himself are presented, meticulously arranged by Dimitar Bodurov to become real earworms. They are never clumsy or predictable but seem to play with Schafrat's nickname "Zootcase." "Zoot" is a colloquial term for 'stylish' or 'cool' - not in a slick manner, but with the corresponding rough edges that arouse curiosity and interest. And that's precisely the case with Schafrat - at first glance, they are catchy jazz songs or jazzy pop songs, but above all, they are stories. Stories that life writes, that need to be told, that deal with human relationships, love, loneliness, failure, and questioning. These are the stories that provide the perfect stage for Schafrat to balance musical nuances.
His international collaborators are the perfect balance. While arranger and producer Dimitar Bodurov on keys, Mihail 'Misho' Ivanov on bass (both from Bulgaria), and Jens Düppe (GER) on drums form the euphonic pillars, songs like "Running out of you" or "Conceiving" acquire a unique sound color through the Slovenian cellist Kristijan Krajnčan. Jazz luminaries like trumpeter Eric Vloeimans (NL) in the title song "The only one" or singer Astrid Seriese (NL) in "Love OD" contribute their expertise, adding musical accents that effortlessly bring the stories of each piece to life - a delight for the ears and the soul.
