product description

In 2016, Franzis Lating founded the band "the bottomline," consisting of drummer and sound developer Johannes Elia Nuß and Franzis Lating herself; pianist, singer, composer, and lyricist. Influenced by very different genres, they found a common love in jazz and the desire to create something new that doesn't measure up to existing standards.

"Forgotten Stars" is an album that meanders musically between jazz, classical, blues, and the electronic influence of trip-hop. Spherical synth carpets lie beneath the melancholic yet fiercely passionate piano, which always manages to dissolve harmoniously into longing optimism and to depart from the beat with calmness. The drumming playfully envelops the sound-intensive adventures but also understands how to skillfully control and break them. The voice sings with a bluesy and powerful timbre about the absurdities of the human psyche and its expressions. What moves us as humans? What drives us in life? What holds the world together at its core, and where do we go when we die? Why are we almost addicted to being able to clearly identify ourselves, and why is it so tempting to ignore unpleasant circumstances? Where does all that we forget go?

"Forgotten Stars" critically engages with geopolitical world events and expressions of power, addressing the longing for solutions.

Mastered by Michael Thumm.
