Sonat Vox
Sonat Vox is an a cappella ensemble founded in the spring of 2015, consisting of young adults between 18 and 23 years old. The unique composition of Sonat Vox with tenors, basses, and (for high registers) altus voices sets it apart in Germany, resulting in distinctive vocal diversity and depth. Years of training and countless joint concert performances since early youth form the basis for a rare level of homogeneity. Sonat Vox is under the direction of Justus Merkel, currently studying choral conducting at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden with Prof. Hans-Christoph Rademann.
Born in 1996 in Ansbach, Justus Merkel received his basic musical education from 2005 onward with the renowned Windsbacher Knabenchor under the direction of Karl-Friedrich Beringer. During this time, he participated in approximately 750 concerts both in Germany and abroad. As a tenor soloist, Justus Merkel took part in the world premiere of "Sonat Vox Laetitia" by Lehmann-Horn and the first recording of the sacred works of Johann Staden.
After completing his Abitur in 2014, he worked during a voluntary social year to support daily rehearsal work and vocal training under the guidance of choir director Martin Lehmann, who took over the Windsbacher Knabenchor in 2011. In the spring of 2015, he founded the vocal ensemble "Sonat Vox" with fellow singers of the same age, and he has been directing it musically ever since.
