"Twenty years ago, Rainer Tempel was still a student in Nuremberg (studying jazz piano, with a thesis in 1998 on Vince Mendoza). However, twenty years ago, the first album of the Rainer Tempel Bigband was also released ('vorwärts + zurück,' 1996). Since then, a lot has happened: Rainer Tempel founded several other bands, ranging from trios to eleven-member ensembles; he composed for classical musicians and jazz ensembles such as the Zurich Jazz Orchestra and the big bands of HR, RIAS, SWR, and NDR (winning an Echo Jazz for 'Petite Fleur,' ACT 2014). He performed as a keyboardist in various bands - with jazz/hip-hop trumpeter Joo Kraus, singer-songwriter Ron Spielman, or the Dieter Thomas Kuhn Band; and he shared his experiences as a professor at music conservatories in Lucerne and Stuttgart, where in 2013, he even took over the leadership of the Institute for Jazz & Pop – in short, he has become a successful, sought-after, and versatile musician.
