product description

Helmut Eisel - Clarinet; Marina Baranova - Piano

"Impromptu" means unexpected

The music? A new benchmark. The sound? Fascinating. The musicians? Extraordinary!

"Impromptu" is the successful and unique fusion of classical and Klezmer, or Klezmer and classical. It is a woven network of tones and sounds that captivates every listener directly. "Impromptu" is also a dialogue full of intensity between piano and clarinet, a fascinating encounter at the intersection of interpreted classical and improvised Klezmer.

With enchanting ease, Marina Baranova and Helmut Eisel interweave the different musical approaches. Above all, the sensitive communication of the two artists impresses, based on their deep musical understanding. Baranova's technical brilliance and simultaneous openness to interpretations are in exchange with Eisel's modern playing technique and expressive soundscapes. In the constant dialogue between the two worlds, a completely new, entirely unique form of language emerges, which justifies its existence from within itself. A magnificent listening experience!

As multifaceted and multidimensional as the music itself is the blend of the two musicians: Classical pianist Marina Baranova, with her Jewish-Ukrainian roots, began studying piano at the age of 5. Today, at just 26 years old, she completes her artistic education under the guidance of Prof. Vladimir Krajnev while also teaching highly gifted young pianists at the University of Music and Theatre in Hanover.

Clarinetist Helmut Eisel was introduced to Klezmer through his encounter with Giora Feidman, who says of him: "When you hear a few notes, you know it's Helmut Eisel." His playing with multiphonic sounds resembles more the technique of the trombone and yet is unique and unparalleled. Eisel is one of the best Klezmer instrumentalists in Europe and also enjoys recognition in Israel as such. He regularly serves as a lecturer at Klezmer & the Clarinet in Galilee in Safed/Israel.
