An extraordinary international trio blends the elegance of classical music with the energy of jazz. At the center is Marian Petrescu, a piano virtuoso originally from Romania who now lives in Finland. A Grammy Award winner, he has been described by his mentor Martial Solal as the “Horowitz of jazz piano.” Petrescu’s brilliant, swinging style follows in the tradition of Oscar Peterson and combines breathtaking virtuosity with musical sophistication.

Joining him is Stuttgart-based double bassist Joel Locher, one of Europe’s most versatile bassists, whose repertoire spans modern jazz, gypsy jazz, and classical music. The trio is rounded out by drummer Felix Schrack, whose melodic and subtly nuanced playing adds an extra layer of dynamism to the ensemble.

The program combines classics from the American Songbook with original compositions and surprising forays into classical music. Particularly impressive are the trio arrangements of the second and third movements of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, which open up new sonic perspectives on this famous work.
