product description
Yves Theiler – piano; Rätus Flisch – bass; Tony Renold – drums
The greatest European hits, from "O Sole Mio" and "Azzurro" to "Einsamer Hirte" and "Über Sieben Brücken Musst Du Gehn," reimagined by this cross-generational piano trio from Switzerland – a delightful musical surprise!
These gems of famous songs from European popular music are reimagined in a clever and refreshing new way by THEILER | FLISCH | RENOLD – much like back in the day when jazz musicians transformed songs from 1930s American Broadway musicals into jazz standards, entrusting them to the world of jazz improvisation.
THEILER | FLISCH | RENOLD is a collectively formed piano trio with a focus on contemporary jazz. For some time now, the three musicians have been exploring the idea of composing, arranging, and performing hits from European pop, Schlager, and folk music in a new aesthetic of contemporary jazz.
Thurgau-born double bassist Rätus Flisch and Aargau-based drummer Tony Renold belong to the older generation of the Swiss jazz scene. Both professors at the Zurich University of the Arts and leaders of their own bands, these two musicians have also worked with world-renowned legends such as Gary Burton, Kenny Drew Jr., Paul McCandless, Dave Liebman, Dieter Ilg, and Johnny Vidacovich.
Joining them at the keys is the exceptional talent Yves Theiler, a young musician from Zurich. Theiler gained recognition through intensive collaboration with Omri Ziegele and through his own ensemble, the Yves Theiler Trio.
