product description
Maurice de Martin: - First Movement, - Second Movement
Maurice de Martin - Drums & Percussion, Ulli Bartel - Violin, Antonio Palesano - Trumpet, Ben Abarbanel-Wolff - Saxophone, Iven Hausmann - Trombone, Kalle Kalima - Guitar, Mircea Tiberian - Piano, Antonis Anissegos - Piano, Oliver Potratz - Bass, Tadeusz Sudnik - Live Electronics
Unusual soundscapes through live electronics
"Transylvaniana" thrives on the juxtaposition of two extremely different components: the musically simple and beautiful traditional ballads, children's songs, love songs, funeral songs, and drinking songs of the Transylvanian Saxons symbolize the culture and history of Transylvania. Unusual soundscapes generated by live electronics and prepared piano, intertwined with rough urban pulses and structured improvisation, symbolize the changes naturally and sometimes forcefully imposed on this genuine cultural landscape by the "New Age."
The performance of this deeply personal reflection on Transylvanian culture is entrusted by de Martin to an eleven-member, internationally diverse ensemble of outstanding instrumentalists from the intersection of jazz, contemporary music, and improvisation.
The three premieres of "Transylvaniana" with the BJCE in Bucharest (Bucharest International Jazz Festival 2002), Berlin, and Gdansk (International Jazz Jantar Festival 2002) are realized by the German Cultural Forum Eastern Europe and with support from the Commissioner of the Federal Government for Culture and the Media.
