Featuring Bob Mintzer!
During a concert tour of the USA in May 2003, the ensemble met the tenor saxophonist and composer Bob Mintzer. Spontaneously, the six saxophonists recorded five tracks with Mintzer at the renowned New York Studio 39th Street Music. Mintzer was on a European tour with the Yellowjackets in July 2004 and took the opportunity to record additional tracks with the young saxophonists.
The band's diverse repertoire includes jazz standards, original compositions, as well as interesting arrangements of pop and film music. This woodwind ensemble requires special arrangements, mostly written by André Cimiotti and François de Ribaupierre.
The exceptional sonic palette of saxophones, clarinets, and flutes is enriched by the Tubax, an invention by the Munich-based instrument maker Benedikt Eppelsheim. It forms the funky grooving foundation of the ever-changing instrumentation and is played by Alexander Reffgen.
For seven years, the five young professional saxophonists have been playing in the successful lineup known as the Cologne Saxophone Quintet (formerly Volles Rohr). They met during their studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne.
They recently won the Special Prize at the Yamaha Sax Contest 2003 in Berlin.

Alexander Reffgen - bs, bcl, Tubax
Francois de Ribaupierre - ts, cl, bcl
