HOME AWAY FROM HOME is the result of an impressive collaboration between composer Ayn Inserto and the Colours Jazz Orchestra led by trombonist Massimo Morganti. It began in 2008 when Morganti invited Ayn Inserto for a composition workshop and a concert in his hometown of Senigallia. Massimo Morganti first heard her music during his time at Berklee College in Boston.
The intense collaboration started in 2010 when Inserto wrote a piece specifically for Morganti and his wife. Shortly after, the trombonist asked the composer if she could write more pieces for the Colours Jazz Orchestra. And so, the material for this recording came together. For Massimo Morganti, this music represents contemporary composition for big band, very open, with a linear approach, much like the late Brookmeyer, whose student Ayn Inserto was.
