product description
Valentin Baumgartner – guitar, vocals, darabouka; David Heizmann – guitar, vocals; Jonas Künzli – double bass, vocals; Andreas Bissig – saxophone, clarinet, remix
"DULE DULE" is the second album by Vendredi Soir Swing. The quartet transcends the genre boundaries of traditional Gypsy Swing, drawing inspiration from influences of Balkan music, jazz, and various contemporary styles, even presenting an electro-swing remix. The songs are infused with partly Dadaist lyrics, which occasionally carry a socio-critical undertone.
The compositions mostly originate from Valentin Baumgartner's pen. Thus, the two tracks "Dule Dule" and "The Engineer" form a kind of compositional framework in the guitarist's approach. All the pieces express the band's current style and are sometimes interconnected. For example, "Zarjier – Grandfather’s Song Part 1" and "Tanze Wanze, Wanze tanze – Grandfather’s Song Part 2," as well as "La Lune Manouche," were inspired by films.
"DULE DULE" is, therefore, in the best, deepest, and most artistic sense, a concept album that is definitely worth experiencing, exploring, and listening to repeatedly.
