product description
Friedemann Johannes Wieland - Organ
With "BAROCKE KLANGPRACHT" ("Baroque Splendor"), the second production of the new organ music series from Ulm Cathedral is now available after a year. Cathedral organist Friedemann Johannes Wieland does justice to the title of the CD by dedicating himself to works by Johann Sebastian Bach and his son Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, whose 300th birthday is celebrated in 2014.
Framed by the works Toccata, Adagio & Fugue in C major (BWV 564) and Toccata and Fugue in D minor (BWV 565) by the father Johann Sebastian Bach, are the two organ sonatas in A minor (Wq 70 No. 4) and B-flat major (Wq 70 No. 2) by the son Carl Philipp Emanuel. The focal point is Johann Sebastian Bach's Trio Sonata No. 5 in C major (BWV 529).
The main organ of Ulm Cathedral presents itself delicately, differentiated, and sometimes chamber-like in the typical acoustics of the cathedral. The registrations of the compositions feature some surprising and unique sound combinations, which also highlight the uniqueness of this instrument.
Not only musically, but also in terms of recording, every effort was made for this recording - with the overarching goal of fully showcasing the ever-present polyphony of the music and the extremely dynamic sound spectrum of the instrument in this overpowering space.
