Andreas Dombert
Andreas Dombert, born in 1979 in Straubing, began his musical education with classical piano. Later, he studied jazz guitar at the University of Music Nuremberg-Augsburg with Helmut Kagerer and Paulo Morello. From 2002 to 2004, he was a member of the Bundesjugendjazzorchester (German Youth Jazz Orchestra) under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer. He completed his education with a study visit to New York.
As a jazz guitarist, Andreas Dombert is particularly known for a sound characterized by warm melancholy and an unerring sense for strong melodies. He is also active in the pop genre, with numerous live performances, studio work, chart successes, and TV appearances with various acts. He showcased his stylistic range as a member of the jazz-metal combo "Panzerballett," contributing to the album "Starke Stücke," released in 2008 on ACT. His band "Dombert's Urban Jazz" explored the boundaries of the genre with a mix of analog sounds, electronics, and video art. The debut of "Urban Jazz" was released in the "Jazzthing – Next Generation" series. The follow-up "16/8" was praised by the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" in 2013 as "one of the most exciting albums of the year." The same SZ critic bestowed a similar accolade a year later on another Dombert album, "Duo," with pianist Chris Gall.
Dombert gained international attention with his two "Night Of Jazz Guitars" releases (2011 with Larry Coryell and 2016 with Pat Martino). Renowned New York guitar critic Bill Milkowski wrote about him: "Dombert does make a strong impression on this six-string extravaganza" and "Guitar aficionados take note: this is six-string work of the highest order."
The Regensburg guitarist Andreas Dombert has collaborated with world stars such as Pat Martino, Larry Coryell, Philip Catherine, Ulf Wakenius, or Airto Moreira in recent years. With his formation "Night of Jazz Guitars," he performed at prestigious international festivals. As the leader of the band "Dombert's Urban Jazz," he experimented with electronic influences, refined his unique sonic aesthetics, and received the Culture Prize of the Oberpfalz in 2014. His trio debut "35" was released in 2016 on ENJA and was nominated for the ECHO JAZZ in the Guitar National category.
