Shigeko Fukui-Fauser & Yoshiko Murozuka
Mozart wrote the sonatas recorded here as violin sonatas, which were arranged for flute and piano around 1800 in Hamburg and Paris. The arrangement on this album is a new version by Shigeko Fukui-Fauser, derived from the Urtext of the violin sonatas (Henle Verlag) for the flute. The attempt was made to get closer to Mozart's musical spirit—piano sonatas with melodic instrumental expansion—than was possible in the Paris edition, and to free it from historical dogma. This goal was pursued with today's possibilities.
The modern flute and modern methodology provide more expressive possibilities. For example, the dynamic scale is more extensive, and the subtlety of the sound is greater than it was 200 years ago. This makes the flute fundamentally friendlier and more joyful than in the Paris edition.
Shigeko Fukui-Fauser studied at the University of the Arts Kyoto and passed the audition of the Japan Music Society as a concert flutist. She followed master classes with Prof. Aure le Nicolet. She continued her studies in Germany with Prof. Schochow and Prof. Peter Lukas Graf, participating in the Bachakademie Stuttgart and the Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg. In 1980, she founded the Albireo Flute Quartet and still leads it today. With the quartet, she has produced five CDs (all released by Animato), spanning a wide range of flute music. She also performs as a soloist and chamber musician in various ensembles, with a repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary music. Several concert tours have taken her to Germany and abroad.
As a young pianist, Yoshiko Murozuka won prizes at competitions in the USA and Japan, including the 1st prize at the South America Youth Music Festival. She completed her piano studies at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo. During her studies, she participated in master classes with Prof. Voskresensky (Moscow Conservatory) and Prof. Esterhazy in London. She then completed her studies as a diploma pianist at the State University of Music in Stuttgart with Prof. Rudiakov. She performs as a solo pianist in Japan and internationally.
