product description
Beethoven - Liszt: Symphony No. 5 in C minor Op. 67, Wagner - Liszt: Isolde's Love Death, Verdi - Liszt: Rigoletto Concert Paraphrase
Unique Piano Recordings
This program is virtually unique, not least because of its extraordinary difficulty. Nevertheless, these highlights of orchestral and operatic literature in Liszt's piano version are not only breathtaking but also very accessible and popular for a wide audience. Dobler's experience as a conductor, his understanding of orchestral sound from his own experience, and the excellent Fazioli sound make this program an exceptional auditory experience.
Fabian Dobler completed his piano studies in the world-renowned class of Prof. Karl-Heinz Kämmerling in Hannover. He has performed in major halls across Europe (including Tivoli Copenhagen, Congress Center Innsbruck, Gasteig Munich, Liederhalle Stuttgart, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Konzerthaus EXPO, etc.), as well as in the USA and South America. In parallel, he is a trained composer and conductor, and has worked for over 12 years as a conductor in permanent positions at various opera houses, as well as a guest conductor with concert orchestras. This experience as a conductor, the understanding of orchestral sound from his own experience, justifies the choice of this very special program.
Press:
"It's a CD for lovers of delicate, graceful music rather than overwhelming ones."
klassik.com 05/03
"(...) Liszt's transcriptions of Beethoven's Fifth truly share the symphonic greatness as the original possesses, and rarely has a pianist celebrated 'Isolde's Love Death' with such pleasure as Dobler (...)
Piano News 03/03
"Fabian Dobler has recorded Liszt's transcriptions with pianistic verve and musical empathy, with Verdi in particular shining on the piano."
Crescendo 02/03
"With virtuosity and attention to detail, Dobler masters these technically challenging works. His understanding of orchestral connections is evident in Beethoven's C minor Symphony. The Rigoletto Paraphrase is impressively successful."
