Ensemble Cosmedin: RUBIN

The third recording in the CD series on the compositions of Hildegard von Bingen encompasses a wide range of sacred music from the Middle Ages and the present, encapsulating love and passion in crystalline form in the ruby of musical creation. This includes pre-Gregorian chants from the Roman Lateran Basilica, poetry in the ancient meter from the time of Charlemagne, poignant lamentations by Abaelard, bold organum by Leoninus from Notre-Dame Paris, and the expressive chants of Hildegard von Bingen. These are complemented by rhythmically-danceable and meditatively delicate contemporary instrumental compositions.

Stephanie and Christoph Haas draw from an intensive study of handwritten sources and bring forth a refreshingly new interpretation of ancient music. They emphasize the dynamics and drama of the sung Latin text and illuminate the oriental roots of European sacred music in the instrumentation.

The Ensemble Cosmedin invites you to rediscover the beauty and spirituality of ancient music. Since its founding in 1999, the ensemble has performed in renowned cathedrals and at international festivals, and has released numerous CD recordings. Stephanie Haas, an outstanding singer with a deep internalization of spiritual texts, and Christoph Haas, a multi-instrumentalist with extensive experience in the rhythmic cultures of the world, form the artistic foundation of the ensemble.
