- German Premiere Recordings -

Passion, Lightness, Temperament, and Timbre

Countertenor Gerson Luiz Sales presents on "What if a day" the German premiere recordings of Brazilian songs from the 18th century! Passion, lightness, temperament, and timbre captivate from the very first second. Without apparent tension, countertenor Gerson Luiz Sales presents songs from his native Brazil as well as songs by Purcell and Caccini. Like no other, he spans the range from sensual depths to surprising heights. Gerson Luiz Sales masters the falsetto like only the few known opera singers.

Born in 1964 in Rio de Janeiro, Gerson Luiz Sales studied piano and singing at the Hochschule für Musik in Rio de Janeiro, where he also graduated with a piano diploma in 1989. In 1991, he moved to Milan, where he performed in a vocal ensemble specializing in Renaissance music. In 1992, he joined the opera chorus at the Theater Hagen in Germany. In 1993, he began training as a countertenor under the guidance of Prof. Phillip Langshaw at the Hochschule für Musik Köln. Since 1995, he has had engagements in various cities such as Dortmund, Cologne, Bremen, Detmold, Munich, The Hague, and Taipei (Taiwan). He has sung roles including Nero in Agrippina and Xerxes by G.F. Handel, Philidel in Purcell's King Arthur, Paisiello's Don Quixote, and Gluck's Orfeo and Prince Go-Go in Ligeti's opera Le Grand Macabre.

He is accompanied by Ralf Kathmeyer (piano) and Matthias Hehrmann (cello).
