Eva Mayerhofer
The poems of the relatively less known English poet Christina Rossetti (1830 – 1894) serve as the foundational idea for the new musical project of singer Eva Mayerhofer. The lyrically sensual music composed by saxophonist Roger Hanschel forms the congenial counterpart for the musical adaptation.
The compositions for voice, saxophone, string trio, double bass, and percussion oscillate between chamber music finesse and sophisticated grooves.
The ensemble features three renowned, classically trained string players: Matthias Lingenfelder (Auryn Quartet), Ulrike Zavelberg (Rubin Quartet), and Martina Horejsi (Rubin Quartet/Gürzenich Orchestra), known for their highest virtuosity and masterful interpretation. The unique instrumentation of Iranian percussionist Afra Mussawisade and the grounded sound of double bassist Dietmar Fuhr provide the foundation for the musical architecture, allowing the rich palette of Roger Hanschel's saxophone playing to unfold optimally. Eva Mayerhofer interprets Rossetti's emotional texts with sensitivity, unpretentiousness, and passion.
