product description
"Ed Partyka and Julia Oschewsky create music that is original and unique. To put it simply: is there another singer who writes profound, probing, and singable songs about life and love, arranged for a thoroughly modern, 18-piece jazz ensemble with a reinforced low end consisting of tuba, bass trombone, baritone saxophone, and contrabass clarinet? [...]
As fans know, Hold Your Fire is their fourth album, preceded by two more recordings as co-leaders, Hits (2014) and Kopfkino (2017), as well as Partyka's In the Tradition (2018), on which Oschewsky contributed to two tracks. Their musical acquaintance dates back to 2008 when Julia played in the Federal Youth Jazz Orchestra (BuJazzO), which Partyka directed. When Julia sang Tom Waits' "Time," Ed was blown away.
"She sang it so wonderfully that I mentally put a little checkmark next to her name," he recalls. "When my vocalist left the band in 2012, Julia was the first person I thought of." Since then, they have been working together."
