DuckTapeTicket

The groovy string trio DuckTapeTicket has achieved a lot since its formation. With nearly 100 concerts, winning the Future Sounds competition, and performing at the Leverkusen Jazz Days, DuckTapeTicket opens a new chapter with its new CD "THE UNDREAMT OASIS": The three musicians invite a rhythm section consisting of guitar, bass, and drums.

A collective of strings and jazz bands is not an entirely new idea, but most often, the band invites a accompanying string ensemble. With DuckTapeTicket, it's different: Since the three string players are experienced as jazz soloists, the dynamics resemble those of a large combo where string instruments frequently switch roles between ensemble and soloist. The new compositions explore the enormous sonic palette of this lineup and allow both ensembles to communicate on an equal footing.

DuckTapeTicket's pieces have always transcended stylistic boundaries. In this extraordinary concept album, each piece goes in a different direction, whether rooted in earthy blues, modern odd grooves, or free improvisation. The longest piece is a four-movement suite by Paul Bremen exploring the fusion of jazz and progressive rock, with echoes of 1960s styles. Some parts are free, while others are precisely composed. Each of the three composers aims to capture a core idea and bring it to fruition. The curiosity and openness that characterize DuckTapeTicket's work as a trio are also evident on this album.

With Joscha Oetz (bass), Philipp Brämswig (guitar), and Dominik Mahnig (drums), the string trio has enlisted three profiled, versatile, and experienced musicians who, as jazz players, facilitate a fruitful dialogue with the groovy string trio. Additionally, singer Filippa Gojo, winner of the New German Jazz Award 2015, is featured on two tracks.
