David Tixier Trio
"Universal Citizen" is the remarkable debut album of the trio led by French composer and pianist David Tixier, already considered "Rising Stars" on European stages. Alongside Swiss bassist Rafael Jerjen and Croatian drummer Lada Obradović, the core trio, they enlisted two internationally renowned guest musicians for their debut: Mike Moreno on guitar and Sachal Vasandani on vocals.
While piano trios abound, the David Tixier Trio is the rare pearl found in the sea—a fresh, new sound, marked by Tixier's distinctive compositional style that ingrains itself in the listener's ear. The trio's absolutely organic interplay seamlessly integrates guests Moreno and Vasandani into their band's sound. Honest, complex, energetic, mutually enriching, open-minded, and surprising are some attributes attempting to describe the music of the David Tixier Trio.
"I chose the title Universal Citizen for the album and for one of the compositions of this album, to describe the importance of being beyond a nationality, a religion, or a community. This aspect of being open-minded and universal is a key for living in our world today. We are, of course, all different, with many different habits, knowledge, opinions, but we are all looking to the same goal; life and happiness. Around this common goal, there are no geographic borders that can separate people, we all want the same. I wrote the music of this album in this sense, and I feel extremely thrilled about releasing it because it expresses my need to unify people through music, my passion," explains David Tixier about the album.
The young trio was formed in February 2016 and has since achieved an impressive track record: performances at Sunside-Sunset Paris, Sala Clamores in Madrid, Alexander Platz Jazz Club in Rome, B-Flat in Berlin, Satchmo Jazz Club in Maribor, Jazz En Ville Festival, and Jazz En Baie Festival in France in 2016. They were finalists in the Jazz Competitions Jazz En Ville and Jazz Avenir Mont Saint Michel in 2016, semi-finalists in the International Matmut Jazz Orchestra Price, online competition 7 Virtual Jazz Clubs, B-Jazz Competition in Belgium, and finalists in the "Templin Jeunes Talents" at the Festival Saint Germain Des Près in 2017. In 2017, the trio toured in Spain, France, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy, and Slovenia.
