Some may associate the name of the Mannheim sextet BLACK PROJECT with top-secret U.S. Air Force weapons projects. In reality, the ensemble has little to do with its namesake beyond an enigmatic aura of mystique.

While some might label BLACK PROJECT as a fusion band, that wouldn't do justice to the sound of this deeply expansive sonic entity. Their sound is experimental and unique, a nebulous blend of natural and synthetic sounds. The color black plays a special role: a dark sonic landscape, a hint of blues, a hefty dose of gritty rock a la Hendrix, and an immense scope reminiscent of Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew" constitute this musical mixture. The addition of mandolin, banjo, and pedal steel guitar enriches the songs with instrumental exoticism.

The members, connected by many years of shared stage experience and friendship, have blended their individual experiences anew in "Black Project." They improvise collectively, compose in broad strokes, and create mental images for the listener.
