Double CD

The Pleasure of Adaptation

With GEORG FRIEDRICH HÄNDEL - ORESTE, the Ludwigsburg Bauer Studios, together with Cornelia Lanz, have produced a special acoustic experience, now available as a double CD. The recording of the Handel opera in the Besigheim Town Church lasted for seven days. The project was overseen by sound engineer and co-producer Johannes Wohlleben, who ensured that the excellent acoustics of the church were fully captured. The CD comes with an extensive libretto in English and German, providing the complete text of the opera in Italian and German.

Ludwigsburg has long been known as a center of high-quality music: Mozart visited here, and the festivals have been playing in the top league internationally for decades. Now, the city is making history in the reception of Georg Friedrich Händel's work with local artists and the Ludwigsburg label ANIMATO, dedicated to the exquisite. It is well known that the great composer, alongside Bach, is considered one of the main masters of the musical Baroque era. Besides, the master was also an entrepreneur - in a very modern sense. He compiled the highlights of his operas into new works, primarily for economic reasons, thus providing a tremendous service to modern musicology and the listening audience. One product of this activity is the opera ORESTE, which was initially presented scenically with great success last year at the Alte Kelter Besigheim and was recorded in the Town Church this summer.

The label Animato has always worked with outstanding performers: Michael Volle, for example, who has become an international star on all major opera stages, or the Stuttgart State Orchestra, speak for themselves. In the case of Handel's ORESTE, which sets the well-known Iphigenia story to music, the label relies on a young ensemble: under the musical direction of Tobias Horn, Besigheimer Bezirkskantor, conductor of the Kantorei der Karlshöhe Ludwigsburg, internationally renowned concert organist, and thus a guarantor of musical quality for many years, young ensemble members from the Stuttgart State Opera or the Opera Studio of the State Theater sing and play.

Just two examples: Cornelia Lanz, recently active in the new Stuttgart production of Die Fledermaus, portrays the title role; Kai Preußker, to be seen this season at the State Opera in Carmen, embodies the villainous King Toante.
